late-ass video documentation for the latest installation i made about infinity
The concepts of space, time, and forever are unfathomable yet also calming. Our infinitely expanding universe is both maddening and meditative to ponder upon, inducing peace and anxiety simultaneously. We as humans live with paradox such as this every day, and we must learn to embrace it.
So I captured infinity in a small box (and made music to go along with it). The light within glows dimmer and dimmer as it is replicated limitlessly into the depths of space. This is a space to lose yourself in, an immersive realm that will make you feel small, like staring into the night sky or lying down beneath a planetarium. Ideally, you would step inside one at a time for up to a minute, and wear this pair of diffraction glasses if you want to experience a paradigm shift. It is my hope that people can escape from their present reality, peer into the void, and travel spiritually through it.
Upon realizing it is both hard and expensive to make a large-scale, potentially room-sized infinity installation, I decided to make a single, modular piece (meaning I can place different items in it in the future, such as Christmas lights or cathode tubes or video projections). This infinity box will hopefully serve as a small-scale starting point or prototype for potential larger-scale installations. In the future, I would also like use programming to make this piece more interactive (for example, to have the light sync with music, or glow brighter as the viewer comes closer). I am currently not at a point where I have the skills or funds to do so, but this is a solid first step to an infinite series.
